Date: Thursday, 17th Nov 2022 | Category: General

Do you want to help keep children safe in East Sussex?

East Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership (ESSCP) wants to recruit a new Lay Member to its Board.

Could you?

  • Act as an independent, informed observer; able to ask questions others might not think of asking?
  • Help the ESSCP link with our local community and voluntary groups?
  • Encourage our community to become involved in child safety issues?
  • Provide constructive challenge to the ESSCP on its work?

The safeguarding of children is everyone’s business, everyone’s responsibility. If you would like to learn more, hear the facts from all sides, question the professionals, help shape policy and reflect your community in East Sussex, why not consider applying to be a Lay Member on the East Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership?

The Safeguarding Children Partnership helps coordinate the work of local agencies to help protect children. This requires proactive intervention for children who are abused; targeted work with children at risk of harm; and preventative work within the community. Members include senior representatives from East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police and local Health services.

The ESSCP is involved with a number of activities on a day to day basis. These include coordinating training for professionals that work with children and families; developing robust policies and procedures for staff who are working with children (on a range of issues including online safety, child exploitation, and self-harm); raising public and professional awareness of safeguarding issues; and carrying out reviews where abuse or neglect is known or suspected, and there is concern about the way in which agencies worked together.

This is a voluntary role but travel and subsistence are reimbursed if required. Our minimum expectation is that you are able to attend the ESSCP Board meetings which happen four times a year.

Further information about the ESSCP and the Lay Member role can be found at our website: https://www.esscp.org.uk/about-us/lay-members/. Please note that you must live in East Sussex and must not work for any of the agencies that are represented on the Board.

To request an application pack, or to ask any questions about the role please email ESSCP.Contact@eastsussex.gov.uk  or telephone 01273 481544.

Closing date for applications is the 3 January 2023 with interviews to be held on 17 January 2023.
